Influence of physical exercise, the type of machinery and equipment used to estimate the percentage of body fat
Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of a weight training session to estimate the percentage of body fat, as well as the impact of using different techniques and equipment. Materials and methods: Eleven men and three women, 24.7 ± 5.9 years; 1.70 ± 0.1 m; 67.3 ± 9.2 kg; 22.8 ± 2.0 kg / m²) underwent assessment fat percentage using different techniques and equipment pre and post a weights session (3 sets of 10 repetitions maximum and one minute interval between the series for ten years). Results: Omron BIA overestimated (p = 0.0045) the percentage of body fat (20 ± 6.1) compared with the other bioimpedances (Techline: 12.5 ± 5.4; G-Tech: 13.1 ± 4.0) and the technique of skin folds (13.1 ± 6.8). No significant differences were observed for body fat percentage values estimated between bars (Cescorf 13.1 ± 6.8; Neo: 13.1 ± 6.7 and Vision DGI: 12.1 ± 6.3). Conclusion: For the studied sample a weight session did not generate changes (pre vs post) the results of the body fat percentage measured by any technique and equipment, except bioimpedance Omron brand that overestimated the result of the body fat percentage in thepre exercise time. Therefore, it is very important to choose carefully the type of equipment to measure the percentage of body fat, as well as the investigation of the impact of other types of exercise intensities and this variable.
