Abstract

Flexibility is the physical ability that allows a joint to move wide, with great range of motion (WMD), So there are currently several stretching techniques to achieve good flexibility. The aim of this study was to analyze the ability of the Stiff Lifting exercise (LS) to increase the flexibility of the muscles of the posterior thigh chain, specifically the hamstrings (IT). This case study was carried out with a 57 year old male, 83 kg body weight, 1.62 meters tall, healthy, who practices regular physical activities. The volunteer underwent twelve weeks of training, two times a week, three sets of ten to thirteen maximal repetitions (LS) with a load of 75% of 1RM, rest between sets was fifty-five seconds a One minute and ten seconds. In the (1RM) test the individual was able to perform the movement with 80 kilos without compromising the technique. Therefore, the experiment was performed with 60 kilos, equivalent to 75% of (1RM). For the evaluation of flexibility before and after the experiment, the Wells bank was used. The test result applied to the physically active individual shows that there was a slight difference in muscle flexibility (IT) when compared to the first (12.3) and the last test (14.1). The volunteer did not practice muscle stretching, but this small increase in flexibility can actually occur through exercise (LS).
