Abstract

Currently, physical training has been increasingly important for there to be an increase in performance of physical abilities in team sports. Thus, the present study aimed to assess the body composition of athletes in team handball female Secretary of Sports of the city of Americana and relate them to performance in power and agility tests. 14 athletes, aged between 19 and 30 years and for the assessment of body composition protocol 7 folds of Jackson and Pollock (2001) used were evaluated. For the evaluation of the Agility Shuttle Run test and vertical jump test to measure the muscle power was used. It was observed that there was no correlation between lean mass and power (p = 0.73) and lean mass and speed (p = 0.14). However there was a positive correlation between BMI and agility (p = 0.00). Among the variables BMI and power, there was a negative correlation (p = 0.02), ie, the higher the BMI value lower performance in the vertical jump. Thus, we conclude that there was no correlation between lean mass andlean mass or between power and agility. However, body mass influenced directly the performance of the physical tests, since the athletes with higher BMI had lower performance in both agility test for the potency test.
