Concepts of the body image under the influence of physical conditioning in street racing practitioners
Abstract
Introduction: Body image, regular practice of physical activity and physical conditioning have been the object of scientific research. However, the correlations between these variables are still poorly understood. Objective: to verify the conception of the body image of a group of practitioners of street racing, performing a correlation with the regular practice of physical activity, and consequently, with physical conditioning of the target public. Materials and methods: 102 subjects, 46 women and 56 men, aged 24 to 56 years, were studied. The body image evaluation test was applied, in addition to the time and pace average provided by the organization of the test. SPSS was used for analysis. Results: the prevalence of body image dissatisfaction (87%) was evidenced. Despite the high percentage of body dissatisfaction, there was a small difference between the real and the ideal silhouette of up to three body silhouettes (± 77%). The satisfied group had the best results during the race, followed by the group that wanted to increase lean mass, while the group that wanted to lose weight was the worst performer. Conclusion: there is a direct relationship between positive body image and physical conditioning, while the individuals who were satisfied with the body had, on average, the best performance, which shows that the physical conditioning acquired by regular physical activity can be an important predictor of body satisfaction Of practitioners.
