Abstract

Introduction: The temporal aspects are important performance indicators, providing information regarding the physiological demands of the game. However, the parameters vary between categories. Objective: Compare temporal aspects as an indicator of performance between the stages of the competition in the female's school volleyball. Methods: The study included 60 athletes aged between 12 to 14 years, participants of the Paraíba School Games in 2014. 795 rallies of 7 games were evaluated, with games classified into two groups: group stage (4 match) and finals (3 match). Duration of set, total work time, total rest time, duration of rallies, rest time between rallies, the number of rallies and difference between the rest time for the working time were used as time aspect. The independent Student's t-test was used to make the comparisons. Results: That more than 70% of the total set time, there was no game. Rallies averaged 9 ± 1 sec., and were interleaved at 26 ± 2 sec. intervals. Significant differences were found between total work time vs. total rest time and duration of rallies vs. rest time between rallies (p< 0.001, respectively), but there was no difference between the stages of competition in any of the variables. Conclusion: For the category in formation the phases of the competition do not interfere in the temporal aspect of the game. However, the data present trends of increase in the variables according to the evolution of the competition as recommended in the literature.
