Abstract

Practitioners of moderate intensity physical activities; usually are associated to a better life quality and smaller incidence of infections associated to the improvement of the immune system. However, when the activity is practi-ced under vigorous form, either by professional athletes or recreational individuals, the physic-cal exercise is frequently associated to the increase in the occurrence of infectious disea-ses due to a drop in the immunity. In spite of countless studies associating the physical exercise as stressor mechanism and evalua-ting its effects on the immunological system, little is known about the effects of the physical activity in the instructors of academies that, given the great load of their physical work, are compared to the high performance athletes. Two instructors of aerobic gymnastic participa-ted in this study on active mini springboard in two academies in the city of Joinville, with a weekly volume of eight to ten classes given. The counting of leucocytes, lymphocytes and neutrophys were analyzed during the normal weeks of physical activities, after a period without activities and in the weeks after the return to the normal routine. In spite of the values found being within the referential limits, it was verified that, in the weeks of work, the results were very similar to the minimum values and that after the suggested break, those values showed a visible increase, going back to the initial values, when returning to the normal activities. Based on these facts, it is concluded that, with the volume and the intensity given, the sample, in the development of their work activities, presented high risk of contracting diseases and upper respiratory tract infections.
