Abstract

Introduction: Changes in the positioning of the ankle joint may influence the flexor force production of the knees. Objective: The study compared the maximal isometric strength on the prone hamstrings curl at 90° knee flexion with the ankle on dorsiflexion (DF) or plantar flexion (FP). Materials and Methods: Fifteen strength-trained men performed three maximal isometric voluntary contractions at 90 of knee flexion with the ankles in DF and FP. A t-test compared the positions (FP and DF), (5% alpha). Results: The results show that the position of ankle DF elicited greater peak force when compared to the PF position (P=0.005). Discussion: Changes in the length and pen angle of gastrocnemius may have altered the transfer ability of the passive component to produce torque. Conclusion: The position of maximum ankle dorsiflexion increases the isometric maximum force production of knee flexion in the flexor table.
