Abstract

Introduction and Objective: High levels of intensity and volume developed during training and sports competitions can cause injuries. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to analyze the prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries suffered in sport and the relationship with associated factors in university athletes. Materials and Methods: The population consisted of 529 university athletes (23.3 ± 3.1 years), between men (n = 242) and women (n = 287), duly registered to compete in the Brazilian University Games (JUBs) 2017 , Goiânia-GO. To survey the musculoskeletal injuries suffered in the last 12 months, the Sports Injury Questionnaire (LAPREV/UFMG) was used. The assessment of associated factors such as Overtraining syndrome and sociodemographic variables was performed using the Clinical Symptoms of Overtraining Questionnaire (French Society of Sports Medicine, Brazilian version) and its own questionnaire, respectively. Statistical treatment was performed using the SPSS program, version 20.0 for Windows. Results and Discussion: The results showed that among university athletes there was a high prevalence of musculoskeletal injuries suffered in the last 12 months (59.5%), with Judo (84.4%) and Taekwondo (83%) as the highlight among the individual modalities. .3%) and among the collective sports, Basketball (68.3%) and Futsal (62.5%). Conclusion: Having started early in the sport and having a long time of practice of the same modality are factors associated with a greater amount of musculoskeletal injuries suffered in the 12 months before the JUBs.
