Comparison of hemodynamic responses between running and indoor cycling in active men
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of two sessions of aerobic exercise on hemodynamic parameters in physically activity practitioners. Methods: Ten physically active men 25.4 ± 3.8 years old, body weight 76.3 ± 15.22 kg and BMI 24.04 ± 4.19 kg.m² participated in this study. Subjects completed three visits: in the first visit measurements of anthropometrics, body composition and heart rate were record with a control session. On the following two experimental trials, each participant was randomly assigned to a session on a treadmill and a cycle ergometer, which were separated by a non-consecutive day of the week. Heart rate, systolic, diastolic and blood pressure were recorded before and during a 60-minute post-exercise recovery period. The normality of the data was previously evaluated using the Shapiro-Wilk test. Baseline momentum comparisons and post-exercise recovery were performed using the two-way ANOVA test with Tuckey post hoc. The level of statistical significance was p <0.05. Results: The heart rate remained 86.90 ± 5.20bpm in the treadmill situation and 80.80 ± 8.20bpm in the 60-minute cycle ergometer situation when compared to the baseline values. The systolic, diastolic and mean pressures reduced 13.60 ± 7.49 mmHg, 3.10 ± 6.47 mmHg and 6.60 ± 6.55 mmHg respectively with 60 minutes post-run recovery and 9.90 ± 10.03 mmHg, 0,30 ± 8.01 mmHg and 3.10 ± 7.30 mmHg, respectively, with 60 minutes post cycle ergometer session. Conclusion: In view of the data recorded, aerobic situations (running and cycle ergometer) between 60 and 85% of the reserve frequency led to a reduction in pressure levels. However, the treadmill session presented a greater magnitude of blood pressure reduction when compared to a cycle ergometer session.
