Abstract

Judo is an intermittent activity, with specific physical demands. The objective of the research was to investigate the behavior of lactate and glucose during a simulated Judo competition. The sample was composed of 14 male and female junior and senior athletes. These fighters had a median age of 18 years, weight 71 kg and height of 164.5 cm. To participate in the present study, the judokas performed the measurement of total body mass, blood lactate and glucose pre-post-competition, and after 5 min. and a competitive combat training of 240s. Data were presented as median, first and third quartiles. To verify the pre and post-competition difference of the physiological markers the Wilcoxon test was performed where p<0,05. The baseline lactate of men and women was 1.5 and 1.0 mmol / l in that order. After the fight, the lactate of men and women showed median values of 10.5 and 11 mmol / l respectively. Measurement of lactate after 5 min. of the fight had median values of 10.5 and 9 mmol / l in this sequence. For all measurements, no significant values were presented p>0.05. The basal glucose levels of men and women showed median values of 57 and 63.5 mg / dL in this order. After the fight, the glucose of men and women reached median values 78 and 77 mg / dL respectively. It is concluded that the simulated 240s struggles increased lactate production, showing a predominance of lactic anaerobic metabolism.
