Body image of women practicing different modalities in gyms
Abstract
Introduction: The Western world has experienced a real survival of physical appearance to the detriment of an individual's psychological and cognitive qualities. Daily, young bodies, healed and free from imperfections are exposed by the average, gain enormous importance and oppose an idea of ​​old age. In this way, as corporate changes, changes in the aging process, impact mainly on female body image, and potentiation of psychological suffering according to the vision of each society in the relationship with women, especially middle age, and age. Objective: This study aimed to assess the body dissatisfaction of physically active women in different age groups. Materials and Methods: This study describes it as cross-sectional, correlational and comparative. 87 women were evaluated, divided into three age groups: Group 1 (18 to 30 years), Group 2 (31 to 45 years) and Group 3 (46 to 60 years). Body mass and stature data were collected for later BMI calculation, and scale of silhouettes and BSQ questionnaire to assess dissatisfaction with body image. Result: 75.9% (n=66) of women were dissatisfied with their body (desirable to reduce their body silhouette). The occurrence of body dissatisfaction was quite significant, with a significant difference for the group between 31 and 45 years old, suggesting that the aging process can interfere in the way women deal with their bodies, thus changing their body satisfaction. This is the fact that worsen over the years.
