The resistance exercises and the osteoporosis in elderly
Abstract
The aim of present review was evaluated the role of resistance training in bone health status and in the osteoporosis prevention. Several studies demonstrated that resistance training was able to increase maximal strength independently people age. In relation to bone mineral density (BMD), the studies demonstrated increase or the maintenance, in specific areas of the body. The literature suggests that is not possible use a single study to design an exercise program to prevent BMD reduction. Since resistance training can prevent BMD reduction as stated by International Osteoporosis Foundation (2002), this type of exercise should be an integral part of an exercise program to prevent and treat osteoporosis.
