Abstract

The aim of the present study was to identify the main findings in the literature that address cases of rhabdomyolysis in different sports and/or physical exercises. The research was carried out in the electronic databases SCIELO and PubMed, with the following keywords in English and Portuguese: Rhabdomyolysis and High intensity exercise; Rhabdomyolysis and Sports Modalities; Rhabdomyolysis and Extreme Conditioning Programs; Rhabdomyolysis and HIIT; Rhabdomyolysis and HIFT; Rhabdomyolysis and HIRT. Only 20 articles were selected. The modalities that presented the greatest risk of exercise-induced rhabdomyolysis (RIE), are those that the practitioners have to overcome an external resistance / load during the sessions (Crossfit®, HIRT, HIFT, Resistance Training, Spinning), thus indicating errors in intensity/training volume in that session. The occurrence of RIE still seems to be rare, but it should be an important topic for coaches and athletes, as it is present at all levels of training and in several modalities.
