Use of different adipometers and the experience of evaluators do not imply in errors of estimates of body composition
Abstract
With the advancement of research in the field of physical evaluation, in particular studies involving assessment of body composition, the growing debate on the accuracy of evaluators and instruments for measuring the thickness of skinfolds, factors that impact Directly in the estimation of body fat and consequently in professional conduct, because it allows to identify the initial condition of the evaluated, as well as the alterations resulting from the intervention. Thus, the aim of the study was to compare the measurements obtained by three different scientific adipometers and two evaluators with different levels of experience. The study Included 22 male subjects (20 ±1.1 years), body mass (79 ±22.5 kg) and stature (1.79 ±0.07 m). The thicknesses of seven skinfolds (tricipital, pectoral, subscapular, Middle Axillary, supra iliac, abdominal and thigh) were measured in triplicate by Harpenden® (English), Sanny® (Brazilian) and Cescorf® (Brazilian) compasses with precision of 0.1mm. No significant differences were found in the comparison between the compasses F(5,337) = 0,378; p=0,875, as well as between evaluators F(3,337)=0,376; p=0,748, nor considering the main effect (Dobrasxevaluatorsxcompassos)F(5,337)=0,415; p=0,850. We conclude that the use of different adipometers and the experience of the evaluators do not imply errors in the estimation of skinfolds.
