Effects of linear periodization versus ondulatory periodization weekly about power of lower limbs

Abstract

Strength training (ST) has become one of the most popular ways to improve an individual's physical fitness and to improve athletic conditioning. Localized muscular resistance, hypertrophy, strength, and muscular power are some of the manifestations of the force that can be improved with ST. The aim of this study was to compare the linear periodization (LP) and weekly undulatory periodization (WUP) on lower limb potency in healthy adults of both sexes during a 24-week (96-session) training period. The study was a non-blind randomized clinical trial. The sample consisted of 13 subjects who were divided randomly into two groups: LP group (n=7) and WUP group (n=6). Participants were tested in the pre-training period and weeks 8, 16 and week 24 (post-training) on the horizontal impulse test (HI) and sargent jump test (SJT). The data analysis was expressed in mean and standard deviation and the alpha value used for all the tests was p≤0.05. The results showed that both periodizations obtained significant increases in lower limb potency in the HI and SJT tests, but there was no significant difference between the groups. However, the present study shows that a 24-week strength training program using linear periodization or weekly wave periodization may present satisfactory results for the improvement of lower limb power.
