Comparative analysis of shortening of the hamstring muscles in practitioners and non-practitioners of bodybuilding
Abstract
The present study aims to compare the degrees of muscle shortening of the hamstrings in practitioners and non-practitioners of weight training. This is a descriptive and quantitative research carried out at the school academy of the Centro Universitário Tabosa de Almeida (ASCES - UNITA). The study consisted of a sample of thirty male participants, chosen through convenience sampling. The individuals were divided into two groups, with 15 participants in the group of practitioners (n = 15), and (n = 15) non-practitioners of bodybuilding. The researchers carried out the tests of muscle shortening, “elevation of the extended legâ€, measurement of the shortening angle with the goniometer and the real length measurement for the lower limbs. It was observed that the prevalence of shortening of the hamstring muscles in the samples of bodybuilding practitioners was 63.3%, there was no statistically significant difference in relation to muscle shortening when compared to the group practicing and not practicing bodybuilding (115.6 ± 7 vs 112 ± 8, p = 0.007). It is concluded that individuals trained in weight training tend to be more shortened when compared to non-practitioners.
