Motivational factors of women of middle age and elderly practicing functional training
Abstract
Aging is a natural process that is part of human life and is often accompanied by an inactive lifestyle. The participation and continuity of physical exercises such as functional training (TF) is directly associated with the motivation of the individual practitioner, which is characterized as a voluntary action directed to environmental and personal factors. The aim of the present study was to analyze the motivational factors that led middle and senior women to join the practice of a TF project in Ouro Branco-MG. It is a study of an applied nature, as for the descriptive objectives and as for the procedure, it was a case study. The sample consisted of 10 practitioners of the functional training project, all of whom were female, aged 45 to 65 years (56.5 ± 5.8 years). The data collection instrument was the Inventory of Motivation for the Practice of Physical Activities IMPRAF-54, with questions related to the motivations for the practice of physical activity. The normality of the data was tested using the Shapiro-Wilk test. The raw scores were treated with the Kruskal-Wallis test, followed by Tukey's Post-Hoc, the percentile values were treated with the Anova One Way test, with Tukey's Post-Hoc. It was observed that Health was the factor that most influences the adherence of middle and third age women to the practice of a TF project in Ouro Branco-MG, showing that they consider functional training as an alternative for the search for health.
