Effects of a physical exercise program on anthropometric and physical performance indicators in employees of a federal university
Abstract
Background: Physical exercises improve health in several aspects. However, few studies have investigated the effects of physical exercise programs in servers of higher education institutions. The objective of this study was to verify the impacts of an exercise program on outcomes related to body composition and physical performance of servers of a federal university. Materials and Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study with the participation of 11 volunteers that evaluated body composition and physical performance after approximately 20 weeks of intervention. Results: Regarding anthropometric outcomes, there was a significant reduction in waist and hip circumferences, the sum of skinfolds, and body fat percentage (p<0.05). In the components of physical performance, only abdominal (p<0.01) and lower limb strength (p<0.05) showed significant improvements. Conclusion: It is concluded that 20 weeks of regular physical exercise practice was able to improve anthropometric and physical performance aspects in university employees.
