Abstract

Introduction: The relationship between a positive mood state and physical exercise is fundamental to promoting women’s adhesion to exercise during the menstrual period. Objective: verify the acute effect of resisted exercise with free weights and on the machine on the mood state of adult women during the menstrual period. Materials and Methods:seven women practicing resistance training participated. For data collection, an anamnesis and the Brunel Mood Scale were used. The experiment was divided into three moments, baseline, moment 1, and moment 2. At moments 1 and 2 were realized resistance training A (free weights) and B (at machines), respectively. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results:an increase in voltage was verified (p=0,017) at pre-test at moment 1 (intervention A), besides maintenance of all other variables levels during the baseline, moments 1 and 2 (p>0,05). Conclusion: the performance of the exercise with free weight and at the machine, acutely, was not capable to modify adult women's mood state during the menstrual period, in addition to identifying that the menstrual period can improve the women’s voltage on some days.
