Abstract
The objective of the study was to investigate the influence of the urban and rural areas on Performance Related Physical Fitness and health of adolescents from Vale do Paraíba Paulista. The battery of tests (medicineball throw, sit-and-reach, horizontal jump, abdominal resistance, agility and running of 20 meters) was applied to 56 adolescents, corresponding: 4 (14 years), 5 (13 years) and 7 (12 years) boys and 3 (14 years), 4 (13 years) and 5 (12 years) girls both rural and urban area. All results were classified according to PROESP-Br criteria. There was a difference of rural area boys in sit-and-reach (24.91 ±5.52 vs 29.63 ±4.66; U 69.00 p˂0.02) and the abdominal resistance tests (22.69 ±4.58 vs 30.31±5.32; t 4.34; p˂0.001). The rural area girls were better in 20m run test (5.11 ±0.40 vs 4.73 ±0.43; t 2.203; p˂0.03). When stratified the results by age and sex and categorical by gender, it was observed an unsatisfying performance for PRPF for both genders and HRPF showed healthy classification. It was compared PRPF and HRPF by sex and age found that boys were better in power of upper and lower limbs, resistance and agility tests. While the girls were better at the sit-and-reach test. The results show the importance of a practical intervention that promotes the increase in PRPF.
