“Gym rats”: analysis of TCC's using experimental/animal models in a physical education department
Abstract
The use of animal models is of great importance for basic research in the field of physical education. With this, the present study aimed to analyze, from course conclusion works of the Department of Physical Education of the State University of Maringá, the studies/works that used animal/experimental models in their research. As a method, bibliographical research was used, in which a total of 44 studies were analyzed between the years 1993 and 2021. As a result, the first study was only carried out in 2002, and the advisor who most published was Prof. Dr. Solange Marta Franzói de Moraes (Moraes, SMF). Regarding the protocols used, studies with treadmills were superior. Regarding the type of animal, it was mostly performed with rats. The studies carried out on obesity/weight loss and nutrition and supplementation were the ones with the highest number of studies. It is concluded that when it comes to physical education, they focused more on research on treatments for chronic and non-communicable diseases than on aspects of training and sports performance.
