Analyzes of reply glycemic and cardiac frequency during a session of RPM® in practitioners of the feminine sort
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze glucose, heart rate and ratings of perceive exertion responses and to verify the exercise intensity during a RPM® cycle indoor session. Eight females (32.5 ±6 yr; 1.63 ±0.04 m; 61.4 ±7.3 kg; 23.11±2.98 Kg/m2) with at least six months of RPM® experience were studied. The glucose (GLUC), heart rate (HR) and ratings of perceive exertion (RPE) parameters were mensured during the session indoor Cycling (IC) in seven different moments. Statistics differences among moments were performed with ANOVA and Pearson test (r) was used to determine a correlation between HR and RPE. Statistical significance was set at p<0.05. There was a significant decrease in glucose concentration among rest (91.13 ±8.39 mg/dl) 2nd, 4th and 6th phases (75.63 ±6.44 mg/dl; 72.25 ±10.91; 75.75 ±10.21 mg/dl, respectively). For other phases the glucose values remained lower than rest phase, but no significant difference was found. The HR ranged from 134 ±18.53 bpm to 188 ±9.62 bpm, with participants working between 70% to 97% of the maximum estimated HR and reaching HR values above suggested by the ACSM. There was a good correlation between HR and RPE (r=0.95; p<0.05). Therefore becomes important the control of the exercise intensity, because HR reaches values maximum and not safe for inexperienced and sedentary individuals.
