Fatigue and performance variation in university futsal athletes during consecutive games
Abstract
Objectives: To measure the perception of fatigue and effort, and the direct alteration in vertical jump performance among university futsal athletes after consecutive games. Materials and Methods: The sample consisted of 11 male futsal athletes, aged between 18 and 32 years, evaluated over a day of four consecutive games. Before each game, the following instruments were used: adapted questionnaire of subjective fatigue feelings scale, countermovement vertical jump. After each game, the following instruments were used: Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE), countermovement vertical jump. Data analysis was performed using STATA 13.0.0. Results: There was an increase in the perception of fatigue from game 1 to the remaining games, between game 2 and 3, and game 2 and 4. For post-game RPE, there was deterioration from game 1 in relation to all others. In the evaluation of the vertical jump, there was no difference in pre-game and post-game jumps. However, there was a gradual decline in jump performance, with a significant difference between the first jump of the day and the last jump of the day, resulting in a 7cm loss in height. Conclusion: After consecutive games, jump performance exhibited a gradual decline, along with increased levels of fatigue as indicated by the subjective fatigue feelings scale and subjective perception of effort. This underscores the significance of load management and performance estimation in the development of training plans and periodization for competitions with consecutive games.
