Influence of viscoelastic muscle factors on strength loss after acute stretching
Abstract
Muscle stretching before exercise has been the subject of discussions in science, compared to losses in muscle performance of the individual. Following this reasoning, studies have noted a tendency to decreased muscle strength asa consequence of acute stretching. The objective of this study was to examine, through a review of scientific literature, the possible influence of viscoelastic muscle factors on strength loss after acute stretching. Analyzing the relevant literature, several studies converge in placing viscoelastic factors as relevant to the strength deficit by stretching. Thus, the points mentioned in this article may serve as a basement for most professionals working in the area of strength training or rehabilitation, to reconsider their prescription on the stretching exercises before the training session that has objective to gain strength muscle.
