Abstract

Introduction: in fact, myofascial release (ALMF) as an integral part of a strength training (TF) session, has been routinely used with the aim of increasing joint range motion (ROM); decrease the incidence of injuries; and promote improvements in muscle strength performance. However, some evidence shows that ALMF may not interfere, either positively or negatively, in strength performance, in addition to not preventing injuries. Purpose: to investigate the acute effects of ALMF, intra-sets, of agonist and antagonist muscles on the VTT in the seated rowing exercise (RS), in trained men. Materials and methods: the sample consisted of 10-trained men (28.4 ± 6.11 years of age; 76.3 + 17.6 kg of body mass; 1.73 + 0.07 cm of height; 25.13 + 4.5 kg/m2 of body mass index) and selected random. Six visits were carried out with intervals of 48 hours between them and entry into the experimental protocols was random and performed on three different days; 1) TF session protocol without ALMF between sets (GTRAD); TF session protocol with ALMF of agonists between sets (GALMFAG); 3) TF session protocol with ALMF of antagonists between sets (GALMFANT). In addition, in all experimental conditions, the TF sessions consisted of the SR exercise; Three sets were performed until concentric failure; two-minute intervals were adopted between sets; 100% loads of 10 RM were used; and the total number of repetitions performed at the end of each of the three series was recorded, and later, the VTT was calculated. Results: no significant differences were observed between the experimental protocols in the VTT (p = 0.166; F =1.919; df = 2). Conclusion: the use of ALMF intra-series, independently of the manipulated muscle group, does not interface, either positively or negatively, in the muscular strength performance.
