Subjective perception of the effort test (Borg) valuation, related to the anaerobic threshold in sedentary people and physical activities performing on a treadmill
Abstract
The objective of this study is to test how worthwhile it is to estimate the subjective perception of the effort, related to the anaerobic thresholds in sedentary people and those who practice physical activities regularly, on a treadmill, using the Dmax method. Research has tried to establish responses related to the effort given in the metabolic thresholds, using scales of subjective perception of effort. The sample is composed by 14 women, divided in two groups. The test began with a 3 minute warm-up at 3km/h for both groups. At each three minute segment, the speed was increased in 0.5 km/h. Inclination was kept at 0% for both groups. At the end of each segment, the participants were asked to point a number on the scale that corresponded to their subjective perception of their effort. Both groups presented 57.14%, which means a perception of effort at level 15. Studies that tried to estimate the aerobic threshold through subjective perceptions of effort showed levels 12-15 on the Borg scale. As a conclusion, it is important to point out that new research on the subject is necessary, with a larger number of participants, to create a larger sample.
