Influence of verbal stimulation in the Wingate test
Abstract
This study aimed to assess the influence of verbal stimulation on maximum anaerobic power in the Wingate test. For this 12 volunteers (22.7 ± 5.2 years, 172.8 ± 7.9 cm, 67.9 ± 9.4 kg) and physically active without osteomyoarticular limitations randomly performed two visits to the study site. Every day we performed the Wingate test one with the use of verbal stimulation and the other without any kind of incentive. Only one evaluator conducted the stimulus and keywords were standardized for all evaluated. The Student t test showed no significant differences in peak power, mean power and fatigue index with and without the use of verbal stimuli (p < 0.05). It seems that verbal stimulation is not effective for improving performance in the Wingate test.
