Abstract

The objective of this study was to verify and register anthropometric data, body composition, manual and inferior member pressing force, linear and angular flexibility; maximum oxygen consumption and somatotypes in Taekwondo fighters from the southern region of Rio Grande do Sul. The sample was made up of 22 athletes (17 of the male gender and 5 of the female gender) of both genders; participants in regional competitions who were at least red belt graduates. Statistically significant differences were verified (p<0,05) between genders in the ST, BO, MPF, HI and AC variables, where this difference was favorable to athletes of the male gender; on the other hand, in the ankle body segment (angular flexibility) in the right and left actions, the angular difference was favorable to the athletes of the female gender. The variables were correlated and in the results of the male gender athletes we observed that significant positive correlations (p<0,05) occurred of BM and ST with BMI and body composition; (BM%, MM, BO, FBM, ∑8CF) negative correlations occurred with VO2max; positive correlations occurred with BMI and body composition; negative correlations occurred with VO2max; positive correlations occurred with VO2max with HI; negative correlations occurred with body composition; positive correlations occurred in the body composition variables; positive correlations occurred between the circumferences (AC, LC and BF) with MPF, BM, BMI and body composition. Between results of the female gender athletes, positive correlations occurred of BM with BMI and MM, FBM, ∑8CF and negative correlations occurred with VO2max; positive correlations occurred of BMI with BM, FBM and ∑8CF; negative correlations occurred of VO2max with BMI, MM, FBM and ∑8CF;. We came to the conclusion that the studied athletes of both genders presented linear flexibility, body composition and VO2max readings inferior to those found in the literature.
