Comparison between time of reaction of practitioners of muay thai in diferent levels
Abstract
In the fight scenario, a good level of decision making, i.e. a low choice reaction time (a characteristic that expresses the speed at which the athlete perceives the information from the environment) seems to be an important variable when looking for a success fight. The aimof this study was to compare the choice reaction time, using two tests between beginner fighters (white belt), intermediate (light blue belt) and expert (black belt) in the MuayThai style. We analyzed 26 male athletes with a mean age of 26.23 years ± 4:19 years, divided into three groups: white belt (n = 10), light blue belt (n = 8) and black belt (n = 8). For the record of choice reaction time was used the software Mel V2 01 Professional Psychology Software Tools. For the analysis of the results was used the nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test (p ≤ 0.05). When comparing the results obtained in the test go-don’t go between the beginner belts (white belt) was (321.98 ± 55.60) ms, intermediate (light blue belt) (323.21 ± 55.85) ms, expert (black belt) (308.54 ± 61.30) ms. In this experiment there were no statistically significant differences among belts (p> 0.05) for the choice reaction time, although the expert group (black belt), has gotten better times. Concludes that the choice reaction time for the MuayThai fighters in this particular study was not a factor to determine optimum performance.
