Effect of a circuit weight training program upon cardiovascular and muscular parameters in systemic lupus erythematousus - A case study
Abstract
Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a chronic inflammatory disease, compromises quality of life. Objective: To design a resistance training exercise program to a Systemic lupus erythematosus patient. Methods: The subject, a female of 58 years of age presented, at the beginning of the study, the classical symptoms of Systemic lupus erythematosus, such as rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and hypertension. The patient performed resistance circuit training for twelve weeks (3 times per week, 45 minutes per bout). Results: After twelve weeks, maximum oxygen uptake increased in 62% , maximal strength increased in 333.33% in bench press, 400% in the Leg Press 45, 500% in the Pulley, 300% in unilateral knee flexion and 150% abdominal crunch. Conclusion: Circuit weight training was a propel approach to increase cardiovascular fitness and muscular strength in the Systemic lupus erythematosus patient.
