Anthropometric and physical characteristics of the Brazilian team of Badminton Junior
Abstract
Introduction: Badminton is a structure consisting of acyclic movements and intermittent (stress/rest) and is considered the sport of the world's fastest racket. Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the maturational, anthropometric and physical profile of the Brazilian national junior badminton in both sexes. Methods: We conducted a field survey was quantitative and descriptive. We evaluated the following physical abilities: explosive strength (ES), elastic explosive strength (EES), explosive strength elasticreflex (ESER) and aerobic power through the test of Yo-Yo Endurance 2 (YYE). The team was composed of eight athletes, four male athletes (MA), 17.25±0.9 years, 66.85±8.9kg and 172.4±10.37 cm and 4 female athletes (FA), 15.75±1.2 years, 62.2±8.4kg and 165.5±2.69 cm, which were training for the 2009 PanAmerican Junior mode, with six to eight session straining per week. Results: All athletes were classified in post-pubertal. The ESs howed a mean of 39.3±3.64cm for SM and 27.2±1.68cm for SF. The average of EES was 45.6±6.49cm for MS and 31.4±2.87cm for FA. ESER in the mean was 39.2±3.13cm for MS and 26.6±4.33cm for FS. The average VO2max was 53.97±2.28ml/kg/min for MA and 43.60±2.59ml/kg/min for SF. Conclusion: The athletes of the present study show good physical fitness when compared with those from national literature, butlower when compared with international literature.
