Influence of a facial exercise program on peripheral facial palsy: a case study
Abstract
This study investigated the effects of a facial exercise program on a person with left facial palsy. During six weeks a woman with facial palsy (age 69 years old) was submitted to a facial exercise program three times a week. Each exercise session was conducted for 20 minutes. At the beginning of experimental period and after the six-week exercise program, photo shoots of the face were taken, and a subjective sensation questionnaire was applied. It was observed that the facial exercise program did not promote any functional or esthetic modification in the participant’s face. However, the voluntary reported improvements of auditory and gustatory perception at the end of the facial exercise training.
