Effect of a session of static passive stretching on flexibility and maximum force and strength performances
Abstract
The aim of this study was to compare the effect of a static passive stretching session on flexibility and maximum force and strength performances. The sample consisted of 13 physically active men (mean age 24.7±5.7 years). Flexibility was evaluatedusing the Sittingand ReachingTest, the strength to the Sargent Jump Test (SJT) and the maximum force by 1RM Test. Wasused the passive static stretching. The descriptive analysis is presented over themean and standard deviation. To compare the means of the variables obtained before and after the testswas performed t test Student paired, adopting significance p˂0,05. The Sittingand ReachingTest showed a significant increase in ADM after performing the stretching session (p<0.001). In 1RM test there was a reduction means comparing the pre and the post-stretching (p<0.001). Regarding the strength performance, no significant differences were found. We observed an increase in ADM and a reduction in maximum force performance with the completion of a previous passive static stretching session. When stretching precedes the strength exercises, there was no change in performance.
